WESS(웨스)는 예술가나 기획자가 독립적으로 전시를 주최하는 경우, 도록(특히 후도록) 배포의 한계와 어려움을 이야기하는 공통된 목소리에 주목하며 «WESS 전시후도록 Exhibition \ Publication»을 개최한다. 일시적으로 WESS의 공간을 전시 관련 출판물 배포를 위한 ‘오프라인 플랫폼’으로 공유하고 동시에 Adocs와 연계하여 온라인 배포를 진행한다.
# 도록 배포의 어려움에 대한 일시적 대안
: 최근 들어 기금을 통해 예술가나 독립 기획자가 기관의 도움없이 전시를 진행하는 경우가 많아지면서, 도록(특히 후도록) 배포에 대한 한계나 어려움이 많아지고 있다. <WESS 전시후도록 Exhibition \ Publication>은 이러한 현상에 공감하며, 일시적이나마 웨스(WESS) 공간을 전시 도록을 배포하는 유형의 플랫폼으로 공유하고자 한다.
# 지나간 전시를 되짚어보는 대화의 자리
: 매해 수많은 전시가 일어나지만, 사람들의 관심을 매체의 조명을 받는 전시는 한정적이다. 그리고 그 중에는 위치, 홍보, 일정의 한계로 많은 사람들이 보진 못한채 사라지는 값진 전시 또한 계속해서 만들어지고 사라진다. <WESS 전시후도록 Exhibition \ Publication>은 이미 지난 전시이지만 함께 짚어볼 이야기와 다시 바라볼 작업, 기획을 휘발된 전시 대신 남겨진 출판물을 기점으로 다시 호출해 내며 깊이 있는 대화를 이어나가는 기회를 가져보려 한다.
# 전시/작업과 출판물의 관계에 대한 고민
: 도록이라 불리우는 전시 출판물은 단순한 기록을 넘어서 작업/기획의 일부가 되기도 하고, 전시를 새롭게 혹은 다양하게 바라보는 방식의 매개체가 되기도 한다. 어쩌면 휘발되어 버리는 전시를 끝까지 붙잡고 있는 것이 전시 출판물일 수도 있다. <WESS 전시후도록 Exhibition \ Publication>은 예술가, 기획자 그리고 출판물을 함께 만드는 그래픽 디자이너들과 함께 전시와 동반되어 생산되는 출판물과 둘 사이의 관계에 대하여 고민해 보는 기회를 마련하고자 한다. 또한 최근 예술가가 작업을 일환으로 아티스트북을 만들거나 1인 출판사를 운영하는 경우가 등장하는데, 이러한 이유와 활동 등에 대해서 생각해 보는 자리를 제공하고자 한다.
[RELATED PROGRAM]
‘전시후토크’는 전시 공간에서는 이미 사라졌지만 출판물로 남겨진 전시를 다시 소환하여, 작가를 통해 다시 듣고 출판물을 통해 새롭게 이해하며 전시를 되짚어 보는 자리입니다.

2022 WESS Exhibition \ Publication
When artists or planners are hosting exhibitions independently, WESS will hold <Exhibition Exhibition \ Publication>, paying attention to the common voice that talks about the limitations and difficulties of distribution. Temporarily share the space of WESS as an ‘offline platform’ for distribution of exhibition-related publications, and simultaneously conduct online distribution in connection with Adocs.
# A place to talk about past exhibitions
: There are numerous exhibitions every year, but there are limited exhibitions that receive media attention. And among them, valuable exhibitions that disappear without the sight of many people due to the limitations of location, public relations, and schedule are continuously created and disappeared. <WESS Exhibition Exhibit \ Publication> is already the past exhibition, but we are going to have a chance to continue the in-depth conversation by recalling the story to be revisited, the work to be seen again, and the project as the starting point instead of the voluntary exhibition.
