As an inaugural attempt sparked in 2019, greenroomhas produced four film-performances and two writings together with six collaborators/participants. At its first offsite presentation, an Israeli choreographer Rotem Tashach will present a lecture-performance via a video call based on his essay Spectacles of Normalcy, an analysis of quotidian movements that are spotted across the city of New York in places like a corridor, gym, subway, swimming pool, street, etc. A Vietnamese choreographer and theorist Anh Vo’s Non-Binary Pussy, weaving the story of their (his) racial-gender minoritarian self in the US with a pornographic scope, will invite the audiences into the scene of his satirical but witty music performance. In Sayadaw and I, Min Kyoung Lee, who had carried out the Operation Enlightenment – a radical ethnology into the seekers’ world, will depict the daily life and insight of a monk, overlapping a Zen riddle and old fable. Nayoung Jeong, who works and lives in London, will unveil her performance video Shifting Memory into Clay. To explore the memories of second-generation immigrants living in the UK, she exteriorizes the participants’ stories stacked up with untranslatable emotions and residues and transforms each of them, simultaneously on-site, into a clay object.
A researcher and choreographer Yeong-Ran Suh will introduce her collaborative work Floating Bottle Project that she has been co-developing with two other performance artists Natsuko Tezuka from Japan and Venuri Perera from Srilanka. Throughout the process, they probe into, by sharing a long thread of thoughts, the notion of tradition and western modernism. An art journalist and curator Tiffany Yeon Chae will talk about the conditions required for art collective in contemporary arts by sharing her experience of participating in ruangrupa’s project, organized for Gwangju Biennale 2018.
greenroom’s homepage, which will be opened to the public at the end of this year, will further perform as a gathering space for active research and critical practice as augmenting its own archival materials animated by an array of collective thinking.
