죽어가는 언어로 숨쉬기: 다이얼렉트 by 멜트미러

게임 개발자 멜트미러와 함께 WESS의 멤버들이 언어의 생성과 소멸을 다루는 TRPG 《다이얼렉트》를 플레이합니다. 우리는 고립된 공동체의 일원이 되어, 예정된 종말을 향해 나아갑니다. 새로운 시대를 맞이할수록, 우리 곁의 모든 것은 침잠하지만, 언어만은 유일하게 살아남아 마지막까지 숨을 쉽니다.(…)게임이 끝났을 때, 우리는 꽤 색다른 방식으로 일상의 언어를 바라보게 됩니다. 그것은 현실을 구성하는 새로운 씨앗이 되어 우리의 마음속에 조용히 뿌리내립니다. (글: 멜트미러)

4월 30일은 베트남의 ‘통일 기념일’로 지정되어 있습니다. 국가가 오랜 투쟁 끝에 쟁취한 승리, 자유, 민족적 자긍심의 서사를 강화하는 날입니다. 그러나 1975년 사이공 함락 이후 베트남을 떠난 디아스포라에게는 ‘국가적 증오의 날’로 기억되는 때이기도 합니다. 전쟁이 끝난 지 50년이 지났음에도 베트남은 그 땅과 사람들의 마음 속에 울리는 여진으로 가득합니다. 서로 상반되는 극단적 기억들 사이에서 개인적 회상을 통해 자기만의 해석으로 공식적인 기록에 균열을 내는 존재들을 살핍니다.

Yeong Die. DJ / Producer / Worker for Sound. Yeong Die는 드라마와 영상 사운드를 비롯해 다양한 조건/장소에서 음악을 작업하며 디제잉이라는 개념에 오랜 관심을 두고 연구를 이어왔습니다.(…)청중은 디제이의 움직임, 음악의 리듬, 사운드의 변화 속에서 음악을 ‘듣는’ 동시에 ‘보게’ 됩니다. 디제잉을 다르게 바라보려는 시도의 현장, 소리를 둘러싼 몸의 움직임을 따라가는 관찰의 시간으로 관객을 초대합니다.(글: Yeong Die)

최근 열린 전시들을 펼쳐두고 “넓고 얕은” 난상 토론과 “좁고 깊은” 대화를 나눕니다. 1부는 여러 전시에 대한 “넓고 얕은” 단상을, 2부에서는 인미공 종료전시 《그런 공간》(2025.4.29.~2025.6.1)을 기획한 김미정 큐레이터를 초대해 ‘좁고 깊은’ 시선으로 전시를 들여다보며 그 의미와 여파를 살펴보는 시간을 갖습니다.

Breathing in a Dying Language: Dialect by MELTMIRROR

Together with game developer MELTMIRROR, members of WESS will play the tabletop RPG Dialect, which explores the birth and extinction of languages. We become members of an isolated community, heading toward an inevitable end. As we enter a new era, everything around us falls silent, except for language, which alone continues to breathe until the very last moment. April 30 is designated as Reunification Day(Ngày Thống nhất) in Vietnam. It is a day that reinforces the national narrative of victory, freedom, and pride won after a long struggle. Yet for the diaspora who fled Vietnam after the 1975 fall of Saigon, it is also remembered as a National Day of Hatred. Even fifty years after the war’s end, echoes of conflict continue to reverberate through the land and in the hearts of its people. This screening focuses on individuals who, positioned amidst the conflicting extremes of memories, fracture the official record through their personal recollections and reinterpretations.

Synod: Explaining Art to Politicians by Suzy Park

Is it inevitable that a change in administration leads to shifts in the direction of public museum policy and cultural funding? Isn’t it time to stop adding “K-” to everything related to Korean arts and culture? Why can’t politicians distinguish between culture and art? Let’s explore how to explain what art is to politicians, and what exactly to say.

Yeong Die, DJ, producer, and sound practitioner, has a long-standing interest and research in the idea of DJ-ing while working across diverse settings of spaces and conditions, including sound for drama and video. (…)In this moment, the audience simultaneously ‘hears’ and ‘sees’ the music through the deejay’s movements, the rhythm of the music, and the changes in sound. The audience is invited to observe the deejaying in an attempt to look at it differently, to follow the movement of the body around the sound. (Text by Yeong Die)
Broad and Shallow / Narrow and Deep: Exhibition \ Publication Talk by Gyusik Lee, Suzy Park, Goeun Song, Juli Yoon

Let’s lay out recent exhibitions and have a “broad yet shallow” roundtable and a “narrow but deep” dialogue. Part 1 features “broad yet shallow” reflections on various recent exhibitions. Part 2 invites curator Kim Mijung, who curated the exhibition That (This) Space (April 29, 2025-June 1, 2025) at Insa Art Space, to take a “narrow but deep” look at the exhibition and explore its meaning and aftermath.
